Tyee is a Chinook Jargon word for chief, boss, leader, or anything large or superior of its kind.  An example of its use is tyee sammon, which means King Salmon in Chinook Jargon. Chinook Jargon was a sort of shorthand language used between Native American tribes on the Northwest Coast and later by the Europeans who traded with them.
